Countdown Calendar for Habitat Green Freedom, a Nicor Gas Smart Neighborhood™
It’s official, Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity and Nicor Gas have launched a “Countdown Calendar” in the lead up to the ribbon cutting of Habitat Green Freedom, a Nicor Gas Smart Neighborhood™. Construction for the new neighborhood, which is the first affordable, net zero community in the country, is currently underway!
To celebrate these important milestones for the homeowners, we will host a number of events. These include informational sessions about the new community, heartwarming Kickoff Celebrations with each new homeowner, and volunteer events once construction begins on each home.
Join us in these events and volunteer opportunities that offer community members the chance to celebrate alongside homeowners, Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity and Nicor Gas.
The “Countdown Calendar” is dynamic and may be updated from time to time. As of July 2024, below are key dates related to the Habitat Green Freedom community. Check back here regularly for new events!

| Rowen Family Kickoff Celebration | November 9, 2024 | 9:00am-11:00am | We’re kicking off construction for the Rowen family home on November 9! Their home will be part of the new Habitat Green Freedom community. This event will take place from 9:00-11:00am (networking begins at 9:00; event starts at 9:30). |

About Habitat Green Freedom, a Nicor Gas Smart Neighborhood
Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity has partnered with Nicor Gas and Southern Company to develop a Smart Neighborhood™ community in Aurora, IL. Both organizations believe that owning a home is the pathway to strength, stability and independence. Habitat Green Freedom will have 17 affordable, single-family, net zero homes equipped with a combination of renewable, electric, and natural gas technologies. The homeowners will enjoy freedom from expensive mortgages and high energy bills, while reducing their carbon footprint.
